The Story of Matthew 17:24β27
The Question at the Door
In Capernaum, every grown-up paid a special tax β for the temple in Jerusalem, God's house. The collectors come up to Peter with a question: "Doesn't your teacher pay the temple tax?" Peter answers, "Yes, of course he does" β and heads into the house to tell Jesus about it.
But Peter doesn't get a single word out. Jesus asks first: "What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth collect taxes β from their own sons, or from others?" Jesus already knew the whole conversation at the door. And then He sends Peter on the most amazing fishing trip of his life.
π‘ Notice: Jesus answered Peter's question before Peter even asked it. Jesus knew the conversation at the door. He knows everything β including what you need.
Matthew 17:24β25a
"After Jesus and his disciples arrived in Capernaum, the collectors of the two-drachma temple tax came to Peter and asked, 'Doesn't your teacher pay the temple tax?' 'Yes, he does,' he replied."
